Jan Szczepański, MD, is a vascular surgeon and phlebologist from Toruń, Poland. He serves as the founder and medical director of Melius Clinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, where he specializes in thermal and non-thermal endovenous ablation for varicose veins, truncal vein reflux, and perforator insufficiency. He is also a vascular consultant at the Hospital for Heart and Vascular Diseases ESKULAP in Bydgoszcz-Osielsko.
Dr. Szczepański is among the authors and leading proponents of the “Total Ablation” concept, which emphasizes comprehensive closure of all venous reflux sources and collateral leaks to restore hemodynamic balance and prevent recurrence after incomplete or segmental procedures. His clinical work integrates 1470-nm and 1940-nm laser technologies to achieve full-spectrum ablation—from saphenous trunks to perforators and residual varicosities—while minimizing postoperative discomfort and recurrence.
His ongoing research focuses on optimizing energy delivery protocols, understanding the hemodynamic significance of venous leak pathways, and refining hybrid approaches that combine laser ablation with non-thermal adjuncts. An active educator and member of the Polish Society for Vascular Surgery and the Polish Society of Phlebology, Dr. Szczepański continues to promote modern, evidence-based standards in endovenous surgery across Europe.
