Dr. Romans Lunins is a general surgeon and phlebologist with a focused clinical and academic interest in venous disease and minimally invasive vascular procedures.
He was born in Riga, Latvia, on February 12, 1988. Dr. Lunins graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia in 2012. He completed his surgical residency training at Riga East Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS), including training in the Department of Emergency and Acute Surgery (2012–2014) and the Oncology Center, Abdominal and Soft Tissue Surgery Unit (2014–2017).
From 2017 to 2020, he practiced as a general surgeon at Sigulda Hospital and Radiosurgery Centre Sigulda. Since 2020, he has been practicing at Dr. Maurins Clinic in Riga, where he works as a general surgeon and, since 2023, as a phlebologist-trainee with a dedicated focus on venous interventions and advanced endovenous techniques.
He has participated as a lecturer and live demonstration surgeon at the 22nd and 23rd International Master Course in Phlebology (Riga, 2023–2024).
His recent scientific contributions include presentations at the European Venous Forum 2025 and the 39th Várady Workshop (2025), focusing on minimally invasive management of venous aneurysms and treatment selection strategies for varicose vein tributaries.
Dr. Lunins is a member of the Latvian Association of Surgeons and the Baltic Society of Phlebology.
He is fluent in English, Russian, and Latvian, with basic knowledge of German
