Jose I. Almeida, MD, FACS, RPVI, RVT is a vascular surgeon specializing in Endovascular Venous Surgery, practicing in both private and academic settings in Miami, FL. He serves as a Voluntary Professor of Surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine and holds the titles of Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Distinguished Fellow of the American Venous Forum. Dr. Almeida completed his general surgery residency at the University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1996, followed by a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1998. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery in both Vascular Surgery and General Surgery.
From 1998 to 2003, he was a member of the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, an internationally renowned center for pioneering endovascular treatments for complex vascular conditions. In 2003, he refined his focus exclusively to Venous Surgery and founded the International Vein Congress (IVC)—a globally recognized educational platform dedicated to the advancement of venous disease management.
A prolific contributor to the field, Dr. Almeida is the author and editor of seminal works, including the Atlas of Endovascular Venous Surgery and Sumner’s Hemodynamic Guide to Venous Diagnosis and Intervention. His expertise is further reflected in numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters on vascular surgery.
Dr. Almeida has held influential leadership positions, serving on the Board of Directors of the American Venous Forum and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders. Additionally, he is a past Chairman of the Society for Vascular Surgery Patient Safety Organization Venous Quality Committee, underscoring his commitment to excellence and innovation in vascular care.
