Tomasz Urbanek, MD, PhD, Profesor

Tomasz Urbanek is professor of vascular surgery at the Department of General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Angiology and Phlebology of the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice in Poland. He graduated from Medical University of Silesia in 1992 and completed training and specialization in general surgery, vascular surgery and vascular medicine. He co-founded and developed European Centre of Phlebology in Katowice, Poland.
Prof. Tomasz Urbanek is the member and the past President of Polish Society of Phlebology and the current President of European Venous Forum. He is also member of American Venous Forum (AVF), European Society for Vascular Surgery, Polish Society for Vascular Surgery and Polish Angiological Society. He served as the chair of AVF international committee and received nomination to the Board Directors of AVF. Prof. Urbanek is the European Venous Forum Executive Committee member and in 2025 he served as the President of the 25th annual meeting of European Venous Forum in Krakow in Poland. He is also coorganizer of the EVF educative activities: EVF How hands on workshops and How courses. In 2019 he organized UIP Chapter meeting in Krakow, Poland.
He is an authors and coauthor of over 250 scientific publications as well as members of the editorial board of Journal of Vascular Surgery VL, Phlebology and International Angiology. Prof. Urbanek is the member of the European Board of Phlebology and vice president of the MJC in Phlebology – the UEMS affiliated structures responsible for the training and certification program in phlebology in European Community.
