Dr. Obi is co-director of the Venous Health Program at the University of Michigan, a multidisciplinary clinic that treats patients with rare congenital anomalies, venous thromboembolism, advanced superficial and deep chronic venous disease, and pelvic congestion syndrome. She serves as Medical Director for the Diagnostic Vascular Unit and as Ambulatory Care Clinical Chief for Vascular Surgery, overseeing > 40,000 vascular studies and patient visits yearly. On a national level, she serves as the Research Council Chair of the American Venous Forum and as a board member for the national Vascular Quality Initiative’s Varicose Vein Registry. She is secretary of the IAC’s Vascular Testing Board, the largest imaging accrediting body worldwide. Dr. Obi’s laboratory focuses on dissecting molecular mechanisms involved in immunothrombosis and venous thrombus (VT) resolution. The primary goal of the laboratory is to identify new, targeted therapies that can reduce vascular inflammation leading to fibrosis, and reduce thrombotic risk related to cellular dysregulation. Among other distinctions she has received the 2019 Vascular Cures Wylie Scholar Award, the 2021 SVS Foundation Mentored Research Career Development Award, the 2024 Cardiovascular Research Network Junior Faculty Award of Excellence and the 2025 AHA’s Peripheral Vascular Disease Mid-Career Award.
